Archival Frequencies: Sonic Session with Tabideee

Words by: Black Archives Sweden Published on: 19 November, 2025

In this second session of the live Archival Frequencies series, British-Sudanese Civil Engineer and International DJ Tabideee delves into the rich textures of traditional Sudanese sounds, exploring how these elements form the foundation for her love of contemporary electronic music and rave culture. She highlights the role of Sudanese sonic spaces, beyond the Western imagination, and the subcultures within them as vital sites of liberation for women and queer individuals in Sudanese society. Combining digital tracks, cassettes, and samples from her personal archives with ongoing research, her performance is a soundscape of these underrepresented narratives and a love letter to her culture.

All the soundbites in the episode are part of Tabideee’s archival and sonic practice.

Archival Frequencies is a podcast by Black Archives Sweden that explores the sonic echoes and traces within the archive.
